SESRIC organized a study visit on “Skill Development for Youth Employment” (SDYE) in collaboration with the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), the Ministry of National Education (MoNE), Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MoLSS) of the Republic of Turkey and the Turkish Employment Organisation (İŞKUR) on 11-13 January 2012, in Ankara, Turkey. The study visit was attended by delegations of OIC Member Countries, namely Cameroon, Egypt, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Morocco, Palestine, Senegal, Tunisia and Turkey and also by representatives of the Al – Fakhoora Programme, a programme of poverty reduction developed by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Besides, the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC) attended the Study Visit as observer.

Thomson Reuters and Accounting and Auditing Organisation for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI), in association with a consortium of Islamic banks, financial industry associations, including Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and SESRIC, and a group of Shariah scholars, launched the industry's first international Islamic interbank rate, the Islamic Interbank Benchmark Rate (IIBR), offering a sharia-compliant alternative to traditional interest-based benchmarks. IIBR was announced officially on 22nd November 2011 during a special session at the 18th World Islamic Banking Conference, which was held on 21-23 November 2011 in Kingdom of Bahrain. Mr. Khalid Hamad Abdul Rahman, Executive Director for Banking Supervision at the Central Bank of Bahrain, inaugurated the new benchmark. The Centre was represented at the launch session by Dr. Savaş Alpay, Director General of SESRIC and Member of the IIBR Islamic Benchmark Committee, and Mr. Nadi Serhan Aydin, Researcher.

During his visit to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to participate in the Meeting of the Central Banks and Monetary Authorities of the OIC Member Countries, Dr. Savas Alpay, Director General of SESRIC, delivered a seminar on “Challenges and Prospects for the Socio-economic Development in the Islamic World” at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) on 14th November 2011. The 27th Session of the COMCEC convened in Istanbul on 17-20 October 2011 with the participation of delegates from 48 OIC member countries. Bosnia-Herzegovina, Russian Federation, Kingdom of Thailand and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus participated in the Session as observers. The OIC General Secretariat, subsidiary, specialized and affiliated organs of the OIC also participated in the Session. A number of international and regional organizations, including GCC, ECO, ECOBANK, UNIDO, FAO, ITC, WAEMU, and D-8, attended the Session. The 6th OIC Ministerial Conference on Food Security and Agricultural Development was held in Istanbul, Republic of Turkey on 03–06 October 2011, on the theme “Agricultural Development and Access to Food and Nutrition in OIC Countries”. The Conference was hosted by the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock of the Republic of Turkey. The objectives of the Conference included, among others, the evaluation of the outcomes of a number of recent actions, programmes and activities undertaken by the OIC and some Member Countries with a view to assisting the Member Countries in their efforts to alleviate hunger and foster agricultural development and food security.

The Third Meeting of the Monitoring and Advisory Committee (MAC) of the Vocational Education and Training Programme for OIC Member Countries (OIC-VET) was held in Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran. The meeting hosted by Iran Technical and Vocational Training Organization (TVTO) and was attended by the delegations of the National Focal Points (NFPs) of the OIC Member States, namely Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Iran, Iraq, Maldives, Pakistan, Senegal, Togo, Tunisia and Turkey. The Representatives of the concerned OIC institutions, namely COMCEC, IDB, IUT and SESRIC, were also present in the meeting.
